How I'm spending the day...

The weekend is about over! So I have been trying to get a pair of Dragon fly socks done. They were started back in June (I think). I have had to frog part of them today, as I totally messed up the heel.. That is life, I guess...LOL..

I've also tried a recipe for sausage balls. I am looking for some interesting foods for the Christmas holiday. I think I need to play with the recipe I tried today, as they seem rather bland to me...

Enjoy your day...

November Already?!

Where did the time go? I can not believe I have not posted in almost a month.. Gee I am getting terrible.. Can't keep up with the important stuff, lol...

I have been busy knitting for a baby charity group, knitting for the baby boy to be! Also have been thinking about knitting something for dh.. Knitting seems to be one thing that keeps me grounded these days..

I have been trying to decide on which quilt to make for baby boy.. He will be here before we know it.. I am going to make him a scotty dog quilt... The hand applique will take the longest, so I had better be thinking about getting started...

Have a great weekend everyone!

Coffe and Yarn swap topic #5

You know with Spring the famous saying goes "April Showers, bring May flowers", please tell us what you like to do when those April Showers are pouring down on you. Do you like to curl up with your knitting, take in a movie or crawl back in bed?

when it is pouring down the rain I like to do several things.. Not all at the same time..
*One thing I love to do is read.. most likely a good mystery.
* Absolutely love to sit in front of the TV and Knit my little heart out..
* You might find me laying in bed watching a good movie..
* Or you could find me in bed with a good book, my knitting, watching a movie and drinking a cup of Java!

therapy dogs and barn cats.

They really enjoy the time there..

Today was a fun field day, we played
soccer with the therapy dogs, and had
a good time wandering out in the open field.

Our next big trip will be golf!

COFFEE AND YARN SWAP/TOPIC OF WEEK 2

Since some of us is beginning to see glimpse of Spring, while others are still getting snow have you change what projects are working on? I'm working on several projects, this seems to be the norm for me lately.

Have you put away the hats, scarfs and mittens, and brought out the cute tank top sweater projects and lacy wraps? I've never knit a tank, but sure sounds like an interesting project. I have a couple of lace projects on the needles...

Have you change yarn to something more lighter and cooler, not so heavy and bulky? I have not really changed yarns, I also have some socks on the needles..

I guess I'd better get knitting and get these projects finished...

BEAUTIFUL DAY!

SPRING FLING COFFEE and YARN SWAP

Well this weeks topic, is to look through the blogs of the swappers and find someone who has something in common with you. I know there are others who have the same taste as I do. But... I chose Tanja as she likes coffee with a RICH BOLD ROAST (Caffeinated), and that is exactly what I prefer.. I also read she collects Fabric!

This is going to be a really fun swap~!

Friday, March 28, 2008

FINALLY...................

I finally finished this bag. It is for a swap I am participating in. The idea is to stop
using those plastic and paper grocery bags. I already received my bag and have used it several times. These bags are alot sturdier than one would think, and they hold a ton!

Hope my partner likes it!

Spring Fling Coffee and Yarn Swap Questionaire

Coffee
1. What is your preference? Whole beans or ground? i ENJOY BOTH
2. What kind of coffees do you enjoy? A rich, bold roast; a light, fresh one, or something in between? Leaded or non? My favoite is rich, bold roast, but I enjoy them all

4. Do you drink for caffeine, pleasure, or both? Both
5. Do you enjoy flavored coffees? How about add-ins or flavored creamers? I enjoy them all
6. A large, lovely mug or a small, dainty cup? The Bigger the better, lol
7. Describe your perfect cup - not JUST the coffee, but how you'd enjoy it! A cup of java while I knit or read a good mystery
8. You're sitting down to enjoy a nice cup in the local coffee shop, knitting bag in hand, iPod all tuned up - or maybe you're there with a few friends for knit night! What treat do you pick up to enjoy with your coffee? A sweet, rich brownie, or something more healthy? How about a salty treat? What goes best with that great cup and company? Something sweet........

5. What sort of needles or hooks do you enjoy using? Any you just detest? It depends on the project
6. Are there any particular notions you absolute do NOT need? Some of us swap a lot - are you sure that you have enough tape measures to last your lifetime? Enough stitch markers to mark every stitch of a 10 foot wide afghan? I'm always misplacing my notions, and I love to have some for every knitting bag..There are times I grab a bag to take and the notions are MIA
7. You walk into the yarn shop and have exactly and only enough money to purchase 2 skeins of yarn in their 2 for 20 special they have going..The choices are a soft, thick cotton/viscose blend in your favorite colors, slightly variegated..a beautiful sock yarn that's just squishy and sproingy in your hands.. a soft, worsted weight wool like malabrigo.. and a lovely bamboo blend with colors to just die for. Which do you walk out the door with? Now that is a tough question, I guess I'd have to eeny meeny miney moe the yarns, lol

5. The day after, it's going to be cooler and pouring down rain - does that impact your mood? How do you spend that day? what helps cheer you up? Doesn't really bother me, I'll just be knitting as long as I don't have to work

WELL.............

I knew I wanted to post something, as I am not sure if I'll get a chance to
post in the next couple of days.
So I thought I would introduce you to one of my family members.. I refer
to my pets as my children..
This is our feather baby "Ezekiel" also known as "Zeke".
DH says Zeke would take a finger off if you did not watch him closely!
I know the little stinker can be very territorial where his cage is concerned.
But if he lands on the floor, he will actually step up on your hand, and
behave himself, for a short time, anyway...
I'm sure you know this.. he is a "Quaker"..

Fingers Crossed!

KNITTING SOCKS...........

CLICK, click! how the needles go
Through the busy fingers,
to and fro--
With no bright colors of berlin wool,
Delicate hands today are full:
Only a yarn of deep, dull blue,
Socks for the feet of the brave and true.
Yet click, click, how the needles go,
'Tis a power within that nerves them so.
In the sunny hours of the bright spring day,
And still in the night time far away.
Maiden, mother,
grandame sit Earnest and thoughtful while they knit.
Many the silent prayers they pray,
Many the tear drops brushed away.
While busy on the needles go, Widen and narrow,
heel and toe.
The grandame thinks with a thrill of pride
How her mother knit and spun beside
For that patriot band in olden days
Who died the Stars and Stripes to raise--
Now she in turn knits for the brave
Who'd die that glorious flag to save.
She is glad, she says, ''the boys" have gone,
'Tis just as their grandfathers would have done.
But she heaves a sigh and the tears will start,
For "the boys" were the pride of grandame's heart.
The mother's look is calm and high,
God only hears her soul's deep cry--
In Freedom's name, at Freedom's call,
She gave her sons--in them her all.
The maiden's cheek wears a paler shade.
But the light in her eyes is undismayed.
Faith and hope give strength to her sight,
She sees a red dawn after the night.
Oh, soldiers brave, will it brighten the day,
And shorten the march on the weary way,
To know that at home the loving and true
Are knitting and hoping and praying for your
Soft are the voices when speaking your name,
Proud are their glories when hearing your fame.
And the gladdest hour in their lives will be
When they greet you after the victory.

ONE DOWN!

Finally got sock number one done, and now to cast on it's mate. I could refer to it as it's brother, and if I were knitting these for a girl I could say the sister, lol.
Being a little crazy here, it's been a long day with some cleaning and rearranging furniture, and running errands. Oh and I was so happy to have some knitting time in there too!
So I am a little punchy tonight!
This is a really fun knit!

PIF (Pay It Forward)

You can blame Jean from Central Texas (just kidding Jean, I love these)

The idea of the exchange is I will send a handmade gift to the first three people who leave a comment on this blog post requesting to join this PIF exchange. I don’t know what that gift will be yet, and you may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within 365 days, that is my promise! The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog - this means you must have a blog, sorry blogless readers.

There you go. First? Second? Third?

Thursday, February 28, 2008

I'VE STARTED THIS!

Well while I'm waiting for dh to get around to trying on his sock, so I can get it finished and cast on its mate, I started this...................

Stay tuned for future updates!

Charity Knitting

I love to knit for charities...

It does not matter to me,

if I am knitting for babies,

or older kids...

I just love the thought that someone

is going to wear something I have

knit with lots and lots of "LOVE"..

SNOW DAY!

We have been having some snow since late last night...

At midnight we had about 1-2 inches..

This morning when I woke, went to put the dogs out,

and what did I see, 6-8 inches of snow and it is still coming down!

So we do not have school as most, if not all, are closed..Businesses are also

closing..Roads are not in good condition!

LOVE THIS BAG............

I absolutely love this bag! I'm in a group on Ravelry that had this great swap! I certainly would do it again...
I was so anxious to see what I could fit into this bag, that I went into my own pantry...

I'VE BEEN INVITED!

I've been Invited to a PAJAMA PARTY!

I'll meet knitters I've talked to and I'll get
to see Nancy's NEW SHOP LOCATION.

I'll definitely take my camera and take some pictures of the fun!

WHAT I'VE BEEN KNITTING!

Well another new project! This has really become a fun project once I got past the bottom, the directions said to use a 26" circ, but I had a 29" and it was still pretty tight. The pattern can be found on Knitty

What is it you ask??????? Time will tell!

TAGGED AGAIN :o)

i have been tagged by Cathy
This is a very easy one for those of you I tag.
The Rules
1.Pick up the nearest book of 123 pages.
2.Open the book to page 123 and find the 5th sentence.
3.Post the next 3 sentences.
4.Tag 5 people

Do you know how difficult it was to find a book in my house with only 123 pages... The book I found was;

Living Without Electricity (you may find this interesting, or you may not)

Amman stressed greater simplicity of life and stricter church dicipline than other Mennonites in these regions, and he wished to adopt the Dutch Mennonite practices of feet washing and shunning escommunicated members. Amman's followers became known as Amish.
Following an earlier migration of Mennonites, the Amish sought homes in North America early in the 1700s.

I love to read about the amish, but really wish I had, had a knitting story to share.

How would you spend a perfect day?

If money were no object, and the day was just perfect - not to hot, not too cold, sun shining,

slight breeze - how would you spend a perfect day out that had been given to you in the middle

of a cold and blustery winter?

I would probably spend the day riding in the car, looking for some yarn shops. I might even take a trip to my friends shop in Michigan, in fact I know I would. Of course I would hope dh had the day off so we could spend it together......Then we would stop and have lunch and after that I would come home, relax and maybe cat nap!

Presidents Day

A day off from work. That is always a GREAT thing!

So..........Some Knitting,Reading and maybe some laundry.

I need to find a list of Maggie Sefton's books as I've read 2 of them and I thoroughly

enjoyed the read.

Have a great day!

RAINY DAY!

It's been a rainy day here, and the snow is almost all melted away!

Wonder if that means spring is on its way?

Since it is a rainy gloomy day, I've made a pot of Stew and I have been

working on this~

Yep ! It is Dh "Thuja Sock", I think I will make another with solid yarn and see if the
pattern shows a bit better. I still have a long way to go, and I sure hope I

have enough yarn to make its Brother!

SO MUCH TO DO......SO LITTLE TIME!

not nearly enough time in a weekend...
there is knitting to be done,
chores waiting to be done...

which shall i do first? what should the priority be?

i am in one swap,

there of course is knitting i want to do for me...

WHAT IS YOUR PREFERENCE?????

I've just finished knitting the "THUJA SOCKS", all I need to do is kitchener the toe on the second sock. These are for a young man in a Russian Orphanage who will be graduating!

I was wondering as I was casting on another pair of socks (for dh this time), what do most people prefer, Double pointed needles or circulars? I have just learned to knit 1 sock on the magic loop method. Someday soon I hope to learn, or master knitting both socks on 2 circulars..

I would be interested in hearing what everyone prefers when knitting their socks!

Happy Knitting!

Thuja Socks & more.........

These are the Thuja socks I had promised to post a picture of.. I am working on the foot of the brother sock, so they should be done soon, I hope. I love this pattern, and hope to try them out with some different yarn in the future. I will be sending these socks to "AKKOL", they will take them to Russia to the orphanage for a graduating young man. I will also be knitting a hat and scarf for him.

I am so surprised that today is my dear son and daughter inlaws 1st anniversary. Sure does not seem like we were in Cincinnati one year ago, Celebrating!

HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY!

Well apparently there will be 6 more weeks of "winter knitting". Should we be happy?? I'd rather knit out on the back porch in the sunlight!

I had no idea there were so many famous Groundhogs out there in the States.

I've been working on my "Thuja Socks", they will be going to a graduate in a Russian orphanage in August. Once I complete them, I need to cast on a hat and scarf for the young man...

Happy Knitting!

This is based upon the Helen Hunt movie "Pay It Forward"
and here are the details - "Here is how it works! I'll send a
handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on my blog
requesting to join this PIF exchange! I don't know what that gift
will be yet, and you may not receive it tomorrow or next
week...LOL... but you will receive it within 365 days, that's a
promise! The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward
by making the same promise on your blog..."
